Well that's where Joe Torre COULD HAVE pinch hit for Manny. The situation called for moving that runner to third anyway possible. No matter how you do it- that runner HAS to be on third base with less than 2 outs to score a tying run. In the regular season, sure- let manny swing away....in the postseason? You need every run you can get and that's where Joe Torre should have taken the bat out of Manny's hands. Baseball is a game of failure- no matter how many times Manny comes through late in the game, the odds are against him finding a hole for a base hit.

Pinch hitting for Manny Ramirez is unheard of but so is having him bunt. As a major leaguer you should know the situation and not always go for the 2-run homer. Aramis Ramirez said this year that he doesn't try to pull anything with runners on base and that he tries to hit the ball from left-center to the right field line. Granted in this particular situation, Manny wasn't going to see much and should not have expanded the zone. I believe it was a mental fart for Manny Ramirez and a fault to his baseball IQ to try and be the hero instead of just being a team player.
