We’ve recently received an abundance of fantasy questions from a series of different concerned fantasy owners. We promised to publish a few of them and here they are.
Hi,
I recently stumbled upon your site and was pretty impressed with what I’ve read so far. I would like to ask you guys a quick question in terms of my 4 player keeper league team. I’m completely torn between keeping Danny Haren or Josh Beckett. I love both of them, but unfortunately there just isn’t any room for both. What do you guys think?
Russ K
Thanks for your question Russ. I personally would recommend keeping Danny Haren over Beckett. I love Josh Beckett, but I believe Danny Haren is going to strike out more guys, have a lower WHIP, lower ERA, pitches in a bigger ball park, pitches in the NL West and not the AL East. I don’t know what kind of league your in, but if your league allows it- I would look to trade Beckett for a pick probably in the 4th or 5th round in all liklihood. If you get no nibbles- you could always switch gears and try and trade Haren for a 2nd rounder or a 3rd rounder and keep Beckett. If you can’t trade for picks, then I would definitely keep Danny Haren.

From a fantasy standpoint- do you see a bounce back year for David Wright in the home run department? Where do you see him being drafted next year?
Mike D
Hi Mike and thank you for your question. I actually don’t see a bounce back year from David Wright in the home run department. I think he’ll hit more than he hit in 2009, but I would be surprised if he hit 25. Playing half your games in that monster of a stadium, as well as playing in the cold through April, it’s just tough to see. With that being said, David Wright is an outstanding hitter and base runner so he’ll get more RBI’s with a healthy Jose Reyes as well as 25-35 SB’s. So there definitely is value. If I had to make a prediction tomorrow- I would think he hits about 22 home runs (on the high) while driving in 110 runs….hitting .319 with 28 SB’s. Not a bad fantasy year. As for a draft- I could see him going anywhere from 9th overall to falling all the way into the mid 20’s. It really depends on the league the drafter is in.

I was recently offered Johan Santana for Grady Sizemore. Do you think I should accept that trade?
Jacob A
Thanks for the question Jacob. Without any background on what kind of league your in outside of a keeper of some kind- it’s a little more difficult to make an accurate analysis but I’ll attempt to. I would NOT trade Johan Santana for Grady Sizemore because I think Grady Sizemore has a bigger upside. Yes I know he killed owners last year, but you have to take into consideration he wasn’t healthy. Johan Santana is still one of the better fantasy pitchers out there, but I think he’s started to decrease his value on a lot of fantasy categories. Throw in an elbow surgery and I don’t think the risk is worth the reward at this point- especially if Grady goes back to his 2008 form. I would focus on making a run at younger pitchers in your draft whenever that is.

Would you take Aramis Ramirez over Gordon Beckham at third next year?
Gordon Beckham is moving to 2nd base next year, so I don’t know if he’ll have any eligibility at that position…but yes. I would take Aramis over Beckham. Thanks for the question.

Hello Bringingheat.com,
I was hoping you guys could help me with a fantasy question. I recently traded Manny Ramirez for a 2nd round pick in my big league. I thought I had won the deal, and then the commish overturned it saying it was an unfair trade. Do you think I hosed the owner that badly where it should have been overturned? Thanks for your insight!
Dan Salaista
Hi Dan, and thanks for your question. I don’t know if your leagues a public league or a private league but I think there’s some shady business going on. Granted, Manny is probably not going to be that 35-125 machine he has been in the past, but he’s still extremely valuable in the middle rounds. I own Manny on one of my deep keeper teams and I traded 4 prospects to get him. I don’t think your trade was unfair to the point of getting it reversed…however I do think you won the deal- and there’s nothing wrong with that. Your job is to win the deal right? I would definitely fight that if I were you.

Tim Lincecum or Zach Greinke next year in terms of first pitcher selected?
Chris
Hi Chris and thanks for the question. I would go with Lincecum. The Royals are frankly not going to be winning any time soon so you’ll probably end up with more wins next year if the Giants go out and do something about their offense. I think Greinke’s numbers will fall just a bit, and being 2009 was Greinke’s first real big year, I would like to see him sustain that before I put him above the best pitcher in the game IMO.
