Takashi Saito signed a 1 year deal today with the Atlanta Braves as they continue to remake their bullpen. The terms weren’t disclosed but my sources tell me it was around 2.5 million with incentives. I thought this was a better deal than the Wagner deal as Saito pitched pretty well last year in Boston. He can set up and he’ll be able to close on days that Wagner can’t so it’s a win win situation for the Braves as they seem determined to recapture their crown in the NL East.
Meanwhile- the defending NL Champion Phillies decided to go nuts and give Placido Polanco 18 million to play third base over 3 years. That’s insane and I find that to be a terrible deal for Philly. Polanco still has some value but 18 million? Really? To do what? Hit .275 with a 345 OBP and 780 OBS? That’s alot of cash and I think Philly hosed themselves with the other names like Adrian Beltre and Mark DeRosa on the market. We’ll see what happens, but as of right now- I’m throwing this signing into Lake Michigan.
