1) Fernando Martinez-OF
Just because he was injured for most of 2009, doesn’t mean he lost all of his ability. He’s still young, still fast, still can hit. I expect him to rebound, although with the sign of Jason Bay- I don’t know where he’s going to play outside of AAA.
2) Wilmer Flores- SS
A large body playing short? At almost 6’5 he’d be the biggest of them all. I don’t know if the Mets will continue to play him there, but he’s still there best infield prospect. He would be the reason why the Mets have shopped Jose Reyes a little bit over the last 6 months. Outstanding upside with the bat and an above average glove.
3) Brad Holt-SP
I really like Brad Holt, and he’s basically all that I like in terms of pitching prospects in this system. He’s a hard throwing right hander and frankly- with the Mets having a ton of rotation issues, Brad Holt could definitely make this rotation with an outstanding spring training.
4) Ike Davis- 1B
Maybe the favorite to replace Carlos Del got it at first down the road. I don’t think he’s ready for the everyday job in 2010 and can see Daniel Murphy being a stop gap there this year, but Davis has some crazy pop and could be a middle of the order presence. If he has a big spring- who knows what could happen. I just think it’s going to take more than a good spring to make the Mets bring him to New York to open the season.
5) Reese Havens- SS
Alot of Met fans and even the organization has fallen out of favor with Reese. I however think there’s still the chance for this kid to become a very good major league player. A change of scenery might do wonders for him.
6) Johnathon Niese-SP
I honestly don’t really like him that much. I don’t like his arm action, I don’t see him being anything more than a 4 at the big league level. Given the fact he’s left handed, he’ll get every opportunity in the world to be a major leaguer, there just isn’t alot here I like.
7) Jenrry Meija- SP
The third best pitching prospect in the system. He throws hard and gets an abundance of ground balls which is definitely promising for someone that throws hard. There’s a chance he could reach New York by the end of the year, but I would doubt it. 2011 is more likely.
8) Reuben Tejada- SS
Tejada is another one of those young middle infielders in the system that can really go either way right now. He’s got good range, and can pick it- but his bat is a question mark right now. He swings at basically anything but has drawn some comparison to a real young Miguel Tejada. Not to bad- Lets see if Reuben can show some plate disicpline in 2010.
9) Josh Thole- C
The Mets are real thin in terms of catching prospects, and Thole isn’t anywhere near being ready to handle the every day duties, but he has a knack of hitting his way onto a new level. He did okay in terms of his cup of coffee last year, but I really really question his ability to call a game. I think the Mets will take a shot at Bengie Molina and let Thole learn the defensive side of the game in AAA.
10) Kirk Nieuwenhuis-OF
Outstanding defenisve outfielder and has to be if he wants to play everyday in that monster of a park. He’s extremely fast, and a gap to gap guy now, I don’t see his power growing a whole lot at this point, but if he is anything like Scott Podsednik (my comparison) he could have a decent major league career.

Brett,
Hey man, It’s mid-June and your preseason predictions for Niese, and Davis (especially) missed by a whole lot! But I give you credit for making them. It’s always a risk putting yourself out there like that.
Reese Havens is doing okay at Bing.
I love Martinez but he’s always getting hurt for a big stretch of games. Still, I hope the team holds onto him because I don’t see Francouer still being with the team two years from now.
