Profile
Brett was 17 when he first hit 90 MPH off the mound, but was well-known before that day in the Chicago-land Area. Growing up in Winfield, Illinois, Brett played with some of the best talent from the High School Class of 2005. He played on some of the best teams in some of the nation’s biggest amateur baseball tournaments including appearances in the CABA World Series, USSSA World Series and Junior Olympic Games. As an 11 year old, he won the Chicago White Sox skills competition. The competition had more than 2,500 participants and the grand prize was a weekend at spring training and throwing out the first pitch at a game while sitting in a luxury suite. While enrolled At St. Francis High School in Wheaton, Illinois, Brett was the first freshman to make the Varsity basketball team in 30 or so years. As a sophomore pitcher on the varsity, Brett led a 31-6 team with an 83 to 16 strikeout to walk ratio in 60 innings and an ERA under 1.80 while being mentioned on all area and all state teams. He was named a top 20 high school pitcher after that sophomore year by the IHSA. After transferring to West Chicago High School as a junior in 2004, Brett started getting more and more recognition as a potential draft pick. He was in contact with many D1 programs such as Missouri, Cincinnati, and University of Illinois-Chicago. In only 4 starts and one relief appearance, Brett racked up 38 strikeouts and only two walks in 22 innings before his high school career was cut short due to having to undergo Tommy John Surgery. The surgery was done by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama in May 2004. Brett’s hit several different roadblocks within the recovery process and as a result had all his scholarship offers from D1 schools taken off the table. And because he did not pitch for almost a full year, he was not drafted. Eventually Brett signed the biggest scholarship offer in the history of Lindenwood University baseball. But after experiencing continued elbow trouble, his time at Lindenwood was cut short. Brett had a second arthroscopic surgery done by Dr. Timothy Kremchek in Cincinnati, Ohio to clean out his elbow. During the rehab period of the spring, Brett served as the pitching coach at West Chicago High School while also giving pitching lessons on the side. After the rehab, Brett ended up at NJCAA powerhouse Elgin Community College where he began experiencing shoulder pain. After seeing several specialists and going through a full year of rehab, the problem was diagnosed by Dr. James Andrews in the summer of 2008. Shortly after having surgery to fix a partially torn Labrum, Brett moved to Pensacola, Florida to rehab at the prestigious Athletes Performance and Andrews Institute. For 14 months Brett was around numerous professional athletes from the NFL, MLB and NBA and the experience was one he’ll never forget. Being around professional athletes all day every day taught him alot about many different aspects of the sports. Brett has committed to Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois to pitch this spring for the Kougars. His goals post-playing career are pretty simple. End up in the front office of a Major League team and leading it to World Series Success. If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact him. Brett’s more than happy to share his experiences on the field as a player, and off the field as a coach and eventually someone who has a career in the game at the scouting levels or the executive levels.

Stanton Recalled

Posted on Monday, June 7, 2010

Super prospect Mike Stanton was recalled from Double A Jacksonville today by the Florida Marlins. This could signify an act of desperation as the Marlins have struggled lately- especially with driving in runs and Stanton could fit the bill for a run producer in the middle of the order. Stanton is real impressive in terms [...]

Too Early to Call The Reds a Contender?

Posted on Thursday, April 15, 2010

The Reds have gotten off to a pretty decent start. The question that’s on everyone’s minds is probably, are they for real? I’m going to try and answer it with a simple word. Yes. I don’t think the Reds are going to go away because they’re only going to get better as the season goes [...]

Milton Bradley at it Again

Posted on Thursday, April 15, 2010

We’re a week into the season, and Milton Bradley is already making headlines for reacting negatively to fans’ words. Earlier in the week, ESPN reported that Milton Bradley was sat down by Seattle Management to discuss him flipping off already frustrated M’s fans in “frustration.” It’s been said that Milton is “putting to much pressure [...]

Worth the Slip or Great Pick?

Posted on Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Jake Peavy has been a fantasy stud. A pitcher you can almost always rely on to carry your pitching staff to a league title. However, most leagues are seeing Peavy fall to the middle rounds, or even later rounds depending on the league’s depth. Supposedly, everyone is afraid that Jake Peavy can’t possibly put up [...]

Josh Hamilton- Hang in There

Posted on Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Ugh! I’m sure voices echoed through Texas today when found out Hamilton was drilled on the hand by a fastball in a spring training game. Seriously- this superstar is so unlucky lately in terms of injuries. Let’s tone down the thoughts of “he did drugs and is still alive, that’s lucky enough” okay? We all [...]

Two Stars are Better than One

Posted on Wednesday, March 17, 2010

The last time the Pirates had a winning record was…eh…let’s not nitpick- it’s been quite a long time. Over the years plenty of stars have came through Pittsburgh only to watch ownership trade them away for young talent that flat out has not developed the way the Pirates once thought. Pirate fans have to wonder [...]

A Never Ending Thirst for Success- Q and A with Boston’s Michael Bowden

Posted on Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Growing up in Chicago area, there was one person who everyone wanted to see pitch. His name is Michael Bowden. I was one of the fortunate ones that got to play with and against Mike since I was 9 years old, and every game- I was one of the players that was expecting something special [...]

The National League’s Most Dangerous Team

Posted on Wednesday, February 24, 2010

As we’re approaching the start to the 2010 season (FINALLY!), there’s one team that really hasn’t gotten as much love as they should have. Everyone forgets that this team has arguably the best 1-2 punch in baseball, can definitely hit if a couple guys regain their previous form, and play in a weak division. Who [...]

Gulp- Can Joe Mauer be on the Blocks?

Posted on Tuesday, February 23, 2010

If you’re a Minnesota Twins fan, you know about the contract negotiations taking place between Minnesota’s favorite Son Joe Mauer, and the Twins. Well- you might not know everything as all negotiations are apparently taking place privately, but the fan base has to be extremely worried about this. It sure looks like Mauer is willing [...]

Cubs defeat Theriot

Posted on Saturday, February 20, 2010

The Cubs have won their arbitration case against Ryan Theriot who will make 2.6 million instead of 3.4. This marks the end of a nice run the Cubs were on in NOT going all the way to a hearing, and makes the team 2-2 over the last two hearings. (Last one being Mark Grace in [...]
